SUMMARY:Home Queer Home | Queer Theory’s Lost Horn\, or Why Is Everybody So
	 Afraid of Being Turned On?
DTSTAMP:20260406T195133Z
DTSTART:20260409T133000Z
DESCRIPTION:Over the past two decades\, queer theory has both displaced sex
from its\nprivileged center and expanded queerness to encompass everythin
g from\nenvironmental collapse to war\, domesticity to prison abolition. W
hile its early\nframeworks enabled such expansion\, this shift has often s
idelined desire and\npleasure as key objects and methods of inquiry. This
lecture asks: why is\neverybody so afraid of being turned on? Tracing quee
r theory’s material and\npolitical histories in US academia and its global
	 circulation\, I contrast\nAnglo-American dominance with other\, “hornier”
geographies of queer thought. I\nargue that thinking through desire and p
leasure is essential not only to sex and\nsexuality\, but to understanding
the wider world in the twenty-first century.\n\nJoão Florêncio is Profess

Sweden. His work draws from queer studies\, media studies\,\nvisual cultu
